1. We see a lot of different types of cookware at different retail outlets at different prices. What are the differences between them?

Every retailer has exclusivities on the cookware they sell. This is why you see a variety of cookware on the market. The differences in our cookware are in how the bases of the cookware are manufactured as well as the thickness of the stainless steel, aluminum and copper. Please refer to the "
Our Collection" tab to view a list of Lagostina cookware available at major retail stores.

2. What is the material (18/10) stainless steel? Does your cookware contain aluminum?

18/10 stainless steel is the percentage of chrome and nickel that is in the steel. This is what gives steel its stainless characteristics. The chrome (18%) adds to the high polished exterior while the nickel (10%) prevents the steel from retaining odours and turning yellow over time. On stainless steel cookware sometimes aluminum is applied on the base, however the aluminum is always protected by a stainless steel disc. Any Lagostina cookware that is aluminum is either protected by a layer of stainless steel or a non-stick coating and the aluminum never comes into direct contact with food.

3. Why is there a bluish discolouration after the first use?

This discolouration is a normal reaction with stainless steel and heat. It is very simple and easy to clean. Either use Lagostina stainless steel/copper cleaner or just pour a little lemon juice or vinegar into the saucepan and wipe it clean with a paper towel or cloth.

4. Why does my stainless steel pan have a white film on the inside and how do I clean it?

This white film is caused by minerals in the water or from the starch released by certain foods during the cooking process. Either use Lagostina stainless steel/copper cleaner or just pour a little lemon juice or vinegar into the saucepan and wipe it clean with a paper towel or cloth.

5. Why are there scratches and/or pit marks in my stainless steel cookware after using them just a few times?

It is possible to get scratches on the stainless steel cookware especially when using metal utensils. However scratches do not affect the performance of the cookware. We suggest using wooden or plastic utensils when cooking. We recommend not using a potato masher directly into the cookware. Add salt to water only after it has come to a boil. When salt grains are deposited on steel when cold, they will attack the steel as the heat causes them to melt. We also suggest cleaning them with the Lagostina stainless steel/copper cleaner at least once a month to keep your cookware looking brilliantly shiny.

6. Will copper cookware tarnish over time?

Over time the copper exterior may darken or tarnish. Such discolouration is normal and is easily cleaned with a good copper cleaner, such as Lagostina's stainless steel & copper cleaner. The use of steel wool, a steel brush or scratchy cleaner is not recommended.

7. What is the non-stick material used in non-stick cookware and how should I care for it?

Non-stick cookware coating contains PTFE (polytetrafluroethylene), a one of a kind plastic material made up of electronegative fluorine atoms which try to repel materials in close contact.
Avoid cutting into non-stick surfaces and use wooden or plastic utensils to maximize the life of your cookware. Season non-stick surfaces with vegetable oil before first use for best non-stick results by simply applying a very light layer of oil to coat the non stick surface of the skillet and let sit on your counter top for 10 minutes. Wipe away oil residue with dry paper towel.
High heat should be avoided with non-stick cookware except for limited time periods such as when searing, as repeated overheating can wear the non-stick coating. Coating deterioration can happen faster on lightweight cookware.

8. How do I re-season my pre-seasoned cookware?

If food eventually begins to stick to the interior surface of your pre-seasoned cookware or if rust appears, re-seasoning is required.  Please follow these instructions.

a) Clean the pan thoroughly in hot, soapy water, then dry thoroughly.
b) Apply a thin, even coating of melted solid vegetable shortening (or cooking oil of your choice, such as linseed or canola oil) onto both the interior and the exterior surfaces of the pan.
c) Place the pan on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and place in the oven at 149C or 300F.
d) Remove the baking sheet from the oven after 15 minutes and discard excess grease.  Return pan to the oven for one hour.
e) Let the pan cool completely before removing from the oven.  Do not wash and store in a dry place, on paper towels to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

9. Are there certain foods that should not be cooked in pre-seasoned cast iron?

Some foods that are high in acidity (such as citrus fruits, juices, tomatoes, etc.) should not be cooked until the cookware is highly seasoned.  The high acidity of these foods can remove the seasoning and can result in discolouration of the cookware and food that can have a metallic taste.  Do not cook these types of foods until the cast iron is better seasoned.

10. Can my cookware go into the oven?

If your cookware has phenolic handles or knobs the oven temperature cannot exceed 350°F or 175°C unless you remove the phenolic parts. It is normal that over time, the phenolic parts will wear.

11. Do the stainless steel handles get hot?

Stainless steel handles are sturdy and oven safe. Made of thick stainless steel they conduct heat very slowly. Side handles can get hot faster than long handles as they are close to the pan's body. The element should not exceed the size of the pot. The time spent over the heat source and the temperature setting also determines how long the handles will remain cool to the touch. Stainless steel handles attached to lids will heat up faster than side handles.

12. What is the warranty for the black/brown plastic knobs/handles?

As stated on your warranty card any phenolic parts (handles and knobs) are warranted for one year from the date of purchase. After this one-year term has expired, these spare parts can be purchased
by telephone at 1-800-263-4067.

13. Some Lagostina items have glass lids - what is the warranty period for these glass lids?

All Lagostina glass lids are made of break resistant tempered glass and offer see-through convenience to avoid boil-overs. Please note, however, that no glass lid is completely break proof, although with normal use and care your lid will last for many years.
Glass lids are warranted for one year against manufacturers defects. Exposure to drastic changes in temperature can result in damage to your glass lid. Damage due to misuse, negligence, accidents, improper repair, commercial use or dishwasher are not covered by the warranty. Should you require more information regarding your glass lid, please e-mail
or telephone 1-800-263-4067.

14. What is Lagostina flatware made of?

flatware is 18/10 stainless steel. This composition of chromium and nickel has been established to be the best quality to provide high polish finish and resistance to rust and stains.

15. Can the Lagostina cutlery go into the dishwasher?

Yes, however we recommend hand washing. To maintain your flatware in good condition, always keep it clean, dry and away from silver.

16. The problem I am having is that everything sticks when I use the cookware. How can I prevent this from happening?

Food sticking to the cookware is due to the heat being too high. When cooking with your pots and pans we recommend using medium heat which should later be reduced to a low heat once the cooking process has begun.

17. Is a pressure cooker right for me?

Lagostina pressure cookers are innovative, safe and convenient. They are a great way for people who want to save time in the kitchen and still cook a nutritious and healthy meal in one-third the time it takes using conventional cooking methods.
